A Short Description on Shinzo Abe

Shinzo Abe

1. He is the Prime Minister of Japan

Elected in 2006, but forced to resign in 2007 because of a number of scandals and unpopular views, he was elected again in 2012, and has been serving as Prime Minister of Japan since. His premiership has been marked by increased defense spending, an aggressive response to China's expansion, and his signature policy, Abenomics.

2. Abenomics

His renown financial policy, Abenomics consists of three "arrows": fiscal stimulus, monetary easing, and structural reforms. He encourages foreign investment into Japan, an increase in infrastructure spending, and radical quantitative easing. Response to his economic policy has been very polarized. His austerity policies have been especially negative, but overall response to Abenomics has been highly positive.

3. He is considered a "Right-Wing Nationalist"

He promotes having an aggressive military, opposes immigration, and wants to decrease the amount of literature involving Japanese war crimes in education.

Shinzo Abe is a man, loved by many, but despised by many as well. As the premiership of Japan has had a polarized reaction, caused by both his Abenomics policy and his right-wing nationalism.
