Mauricio Macri
In 2015, Mauricio Macri ran for president under the flag of the Republican proposal, a conservative party which is highly pro-market. He faced Daniel Scioli in a runoff which he, against the odds, won. In his first year, he has renegotiated Argentina's enormous debt, implemented devaluation of the peso, and radically reduced energy subsidies.
2. He was the Mayor of Buenos Aires.
From 2007-2015, Macri was the executive head of the Buenos Aires administration. He invested heavily into infrastructure, and built an entirely new police force. He was elected to a second term with little resistance.
3. He was mentioned in the Panama Papers.
He was mentioned as one of the directors of an offshore account. Because he made no mention of this as Mayor of Buenos Aires, he will undergo a trial, even though the trial has already been postponed many times.
